Remembering Kenny

Who Was Kount?

Kenny was someone who made you feel like you belonged, no matter where you came from. His friends knew him simply as "Kount" — a nickname that captured the way he carried himself: counted on, counted in, someone who counted for something.

He was an athlete who gave everything he had on the field and a poet who gave just as much on the page. He had a way with words and a way with people, always finding the thing that connected them. Family was the center of his life, and he poured that same devotion into the people around him — friends who became family, neighbors who became community.

Kenny was taken too soon, lost to homicide. He left behind a community that grieved deeply and loved him fiercely. His mother and family chose to carry his spirit forward in the most meaningful way they could: by reaching out to other families walking through the same kind of loss.

The Kount Cares Foundation exists because of who Kenny was. His care for others is now our mission.

"Kount" — a name his community gave him, and a spirit this foundation will keep alive.

Our Mission

No one should grieve alone.

The Kount Cares Foundation walks alongside families who have experienced loss, offering practical support, a caring community, and a compassionate presence during some of life's most difficult seasons. We are rooted in faith and guided by love, meeting people exactly where they are.

We exist for the mother who cannot sleep, the father searching for answers, the siblings carrying grief they do not have words for, and the friends who do not know how to help. We are here for all of them.

What We Do

How We Support Families

Our work is rooted in dignity and presence. We offer tangible help alongside emotional care, because families in grief need both.

Individual & Family Grief Counseling

Professional, compassionate counseling for individuals and families navigating loss. We create a safe space where grief can be spoken, heard, and gently worked through at each person's own pace.

Support Groups

Community-based groups where people who have experienced similar losses can gather, share, and support one another. You do not have to explain your pain here — those around you already understand it.

Scholarships

Educational scholarships for young people whose lives have been shaped by loss. We invest in futures, honoring the potential Kenny believed every young person carries.

Funeral Expense Assistance

Financial assistance to help families cover the costs of laying their loved ones to rest with dignity. No family should face burial logistics alone in the depths of grief.

Parents' Respite Care

Intentional rest and renewal for grieving parents. We support caregivers who are holding their families together while also carrying tremendous loss of their own.

Send us an email and someone from our team will respond with warmth and without pressure. There is no wrong time to reach out, and no story too heavy to share with us.

All inquiries are handled with confidentiality and care.

Get Involved

There is a place for you here.

We are a small foundation doing meaningful work, and we are stronger when our community shows up alongside us. Whether you have a few hours to give, a professional skill to offer, or a connection to share, we would love to hear from you.
